Sidmouth Community Art Project

Seascape Mural on the Ham,
Port Royal, Sidmouth

Picture
We are trying to create a fun mural to brighten up the Ham. Before, the wall was a dull, boring, grey which needed a bit of community colour and design. The wall is on the back of the Bagwell family’s Wet Fish shop on the Ham, Port Royal, The Esplanade, Sidmouth.  http://www.sidmouthtrawlers.co.uk

Coco Hodgkinson is a well known Sidmouth artist with experience of many schools and community art projects.  Coco runs MADE: A Crafty Co-operative that is based at Libra Court, Fore Street, Sidmouth, EX10 8AJ. 01395 577519 www.madeinsidmouth.co.uk

The aim of the project is:

*
To create a vibrant sea themed mural for the benefit of the community and visitors to Sidmouth.

* To engage children and young people in Sidmouth in the regeneration of the Ham area

* To promote support in the community for sustainable fishing and environmental awareness

The Project goals:

To create a mural on the wall of the Wet Fish Shop, with a seascape background and fish, sea creatures and plants made of tiles painted by children and young people on the 13th April 2011.

Fish/sea creatures and plants tiles were available for children to paint,(£3 a tile), before they were fired and adhered to the wall onto a base seascape design.  Educational information about sustainable fishing was provided on the day by partners.
